UBEC Launches Climate Change Education Training in Abia

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), in partnership with the African Centre for Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development (ACEARD), has initiated the State-Level Step-Down Training on the Greening Schools and Climate Change Education Intervention (GSCCEI) in Abia State. This training aims to mainstream climate change education and promote environmental sustainability within Nigeria's basic education framework.

Participants include officials from State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs), Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) Desk Officers, school administrators, and other education stakeholders. Mr.

Unyime Robinson, Chief Executive of ACEARD, praised UBEC's leadership in climate education and described GSCCEI as a transformative initiative. The program integrates climate literacy and sustainability practices into educational processes.

Mr. Madmere Victor, representing UBEC's Executive Secretary Dr.

Aisha Garba, emphasized the program's alignment with the National Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI) and Nigeria's commitment to the UNESCO Greening Education Partnership. The training is part of a broader federal education reform agenda.
