UK Couple Ends Hunger Strike Amid Iran Detention

Lindsay and Craig Foreman, a British couple in their early 50s, were detained in Iran in January 2025 while on a motorbike trip. They were sentenced to ten years in prison on espionage charges in February 2025, with an additional two years added to Craig's sentence for speaking to the media.

They began their latest hunger strikes in May 2025, protesting the poor conditions at Evin Prison, where they reported overcrowding and unsanitary conditions. Craig's hunger strike lasted 93 days, while Lindsay's lasted 84 days.

Their family announced that the couple ended their hunger strikes after nearly three months, converting the last five days into a "fast for good" to raise awareness about their situation and the rights of others imprisoned in Iran. Joe Bennett, Lindsay's son, expressed concerns about their health and the challenges of securing their release, especially after the UK embassy closed on July 22, 2025, and began operating remotely.
