Iran Executes Two for Spying for Israel's Mossad

On Monday, Iran executed two men, Omid Behzad and Pouria Safvat, who were convicted of spying for Israel, according to the judiciary's media outlet, Mizan. They were hanged for transmitting sensitive military and security site coordinates to Mossad agents.

The judiciary did not disclose the dates of their arrests or trials but stated they were found guilty of "espionage and collaboration with the Zionist regime." The executions are part of a significant increase in hangings in Iran, particularly since the war with Israel and the United States began on February 28, following massive strikes that resulted in the death of Iran's supreme leader. Iran has been noted as the world's second-most prolific executioner after China, with at least 1,639 executions recorded last year, marking a record high since 1989.

Amnesty International condemned the escalation of executions, particularly following the hanging of two men involved in anti-government protests.
