UK Expands Global Talent Visa for 100+ Firms

On Thursday, the UK government announced an expansion of its Global Talent visa scheme, enabling over 100 research-intensive businesses to recruit top scientists and engineers from around the world. This expansion allows exceptional researchers working on funded projects to be supported by eligible commercial research businesses, in addition to universities and independent research bodies.

Notable companies participating include AstraZeneca, Jaguar Land Rover, Added Value Solutions (AVS), Denroy Plastics, and Ffilm Cymru. The Global Talent visa has already facilitated over 12,500 individuals from more than 130 countries in establishing research careers in the UK.

Secretary of State for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade, Jonathan Reynolds, emphasized that this initiative would simplify the recruitment of eligible researchers, fostering the development of future medicines and technologies. UK Research and Innovation's Professor Christopher Smith noted the visa's role in advancing knowledge and driving growth across various sectors, including clean energy and artificial intelligence.

The expansion is seen as a significant step towards enhancing the UK's global talent appeal.
