UK Sets Restrictions for ETA Holders from 82 Countries

The United Kingdom has established five specific restrictions for citizens of 82 countries eligible to enter the UK using an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) instead of a full visa. Firstly, ETA holders cannot stay in the UK for more than six months per visit and cannot extend their stay without applying for the appropriate visa.

Secondly, they are prohibited from engaging in any form of paid or unpaid work, with limited exceptions for specific permitted engagements. Thirdly, ETA holders cannot access public funds or government benefits and must be financially self-sufficient during their stay.

Fourthly, the ETA does not allow for residency through frequent visits, as the UK government explicitly prohibits using successive visits to effectively live in the country. Lastly, individuals holding an ETA cannot marry or register a civil partnership in the UK; those wishing to marry must apply for a Marriage Visitor visa.
