UK Issues Warning to Nigeria on Deadly Alcoholic Drinks Amid Rising Methanol Poisoning Cases

The UK's FCDO has issued a warning to Nigeria and other countries about the dangers of methanol poisoning from counterfeit alcoholic drinks, following several deaths worldwide. Methanol, a toxic compound, can be fatal if ingested and is often found in illicit alcohol.

Health experts, including MSF, estimate thousands die from methanol poisoning annually. The FCDO advises early treatment for symptoms like blurred vision, nausea, and dizziness.

Nigeria is urged to enhance monitoring, promote safer alcohol consumption, and seal unregulated alcohol outlets to prevent further fatalities.
