Umahi Urges Enhanced Supervision of Infrastructure Projects

On August 12, 2026, Sen. Engr. David Umahi, CON, FNSE, FNATE, the Honourable Minister of Works, addressed Federal Controllers of Works (FCW) from all thirty-six states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at the Ministry’s Headquarters. He charged them to intensify supervision of Federal road and bridge projects, strengthen stakeholder engagement, and ensure public awareness of ongoing and completed infrastructure projects.

Umahi highlighted that their roles extend beyond administrative duties, emphasizing the need for effective communication to keep citizens informed about project details. He urged the Controllers to take ownership of their projects, collaborate with state governments and other stakeholders, and be present at construction sites to address challenges promptly.

He also directed them to apply legitimate provisions in the Bill of Quantities (B.O.Q.) judiciously to facilitate project delivery without incurring unnecessary costs. Umahi stressed the importance of timely decision-making to avoid delays and promised ongoing capacity building for technical personnel involved in project monitoring and evaluation.
