Umahi to Inspect Benin-Asaba Road Amid Severe Gridlock

David Umahi, the Minister of Works, announced plans to inspect the Benin-Asaba road on Tuesday following significant complaints and protests regarding severe gridlock caused by the road's deteriorating condition. This announcement was made during the flag-off ceremony for the dualisation of the Ibadan-Ijebu-Ode Road, as shared by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Francis Nwaze.

Umahi intends to meet with independent engineers, the concessionaire responsible for the project, and the Edo State Government to devise a solution. He attributed the road's poor state to the Federal Government's efforts to involve the private sector in road development through concession arrangements.

Umahi claimed that the concessionaire had removed over 30 kilometers of asphalt without completing necessary rehabilitation, leading to significant suffering for motorists and travelers. He also mentioned that his Minister of State would visit the Ifaki-Ado-Ekiti road, which has also experienced severe traffic congestion due to a collapsed section.
