UN Demands Israel Release Gaza Flotilla Activists

The United Nations has issued a statement demanding that Israel immediately and unconditionally release two activists, Saif Abukeshek and Thiago de Avila, who were detained while participating in a Gaza-bound flotilla. The UN's call for their release was made public by spokesman Thameen Al Kheetan on Wednesday.

The organization has also requested an investigation into disturbing accounts of severe mistreatment of the activists. Both individuals are members of the Global Sumud Flotilla and were reportedly taken into custody in international waters and subsequently brought to Israel, where they continue to be held without charges.

The UN's intervention highlights ongoing concerns regarding human rights and the treatment of individuals involved in humanitarian efforts related to Gaza.
