UN Women Disowns GADA Fundraising for Women Candidates

UN Women Nigeria issued a statement disassociating itself from fundraising materials circulated by Gender & Development Action (GADA) related to Nigeria's upcoming general elections. The organization clarified that it neither authorized nor supported GADA's initiative, which used the UN Women name and the branding of the Women Political Participation (WPP) Working Group to solicit funds for individual female political candidates.

UN Women expressed concern that this could mislead the public into believing that the agency endorsed or supported the fundraising efforts. It reiterated its principles of impartiality, independence, and political neutrality, stating that it does not endorse any political candidates or parties.

UN Women formally requested GADA to cease using its name and branding for political fundraising and to remove related materials from its platforms. The organization affirmed its commitment to promoting women's political participation through non-partisan initiatives that support women across political affiliations.
