Tinubu Affirms Freedom of Criticism at Daily Times Centenary

On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu declared that Nigerians are free to criticize his administration and even insult him without fear of government retaliation. This statement was made during the centenary celebration of the Daily Times of Nigeria Limited in Abuja, where he was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

Tinubu emphasized that this approach reflects his administration's commitment to freedom of expression and an independent press. He defended the economic and institutional reforms his government is implementing, attributing many of Nigeria's current challenges to structural issues inherited over decades.

Tinubu stated that these reforms are intended to change Nigeria's long-term economic trajectory rather than serve as temporary fixes. He outlined priorities such as strengthening the fiscal position, increasing productivity, improving infrastructure, attracting investment, and creating opportunities for youth.

Additionally, he acknowledged the media's role in national development and the importance of preserving historical records to avoid repeating past mistakes.
