US and Canada Warn Citizens Amid Mexico Drug Violence

The US State Department and the Canadian government have issued travel warnings for Mexico after the killing of 59-year-old drug kingpin Nemesio Oseguera, the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. This incident occurred during a clash with Mexican soldiers in the town of Tapalpa.

In response to the violence and ongoing security operations, the US State Department urged American citizens in Mexico to shelter in place. The warnings were amplified by reports of roadblocks and criminal activity in the area.

Several airlines, including Southwest Airlines, Air Canada, and WestJet, announced the cancellation of flights to and from Mexico, specifically targeting Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara, and Manzanillo. The situation has led to significant disruptions in airline operations, with Southwest Airlines turning back four flights already en route to Puerto Vallarta.

Citizens are advised to keep a low profile and follow local authorities' guidance until further notice.
