Mexican President Calls for Calm Amid Cartel Violence

Following the death of cartel leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as El Mencho, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum called for calm and unity amid escalating violence attributed to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. In a statement addressing the security situation, Sheinbaum emphasized the need for coordination among security agencies and urged the public to remain informed.

Reports indicated that federal forces conducted operations resulting in various roadblocks, which triggered retaliatory unrest across parts of Mexico late Sunday night. The President acknowledged ongoing security concerns and noted that daily activities continued largely unaffected despite local disruptions.

She also recognized the efforts of Mexico's security institutions, including the army and national guard, in maintaining peace and justice. The unrest included disruptions to transportation, affecting Mexico's professional football league and leading to the cancellation of flights at Guadalajara International Airport, where citizens were advised to shelter in place due to ongoing criminal activities.
