Military Kills CJNG Leader, Sparks Violence in Jalisco

On a recent date, Mexican military forces killed 59-year-old Oseguera Cervantes, the head of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), during a confrontation in Jalisco state. Following this operation, which aimed to capture fugitives wanted by U.S. authorities with a $15 million reward for information leading to their arrest, violence erupted in several regions linked to CJNG operations.

Reports indicated that cartel members set up roadblocks, hijacked vehicles, and exchanged gunfire with security forces. In Puerto Vallarta, smoke was seen rising from burning vehicles, prompting authorities to advise residents and tourists to stay indoors.

The violence also led to the temporary closure of schools and the suspension of transport services in multiple municipalities. Claudia Sheinbaum, the President of Mexico, called for calm and stated that federal and state authorities are coordinating efforts to restore order and prevent further escalation of violence.
