US Military Launches New Training for Nigerian Forces

The United States military has commenced a new round of specialized training for Nigerian forces in Bauchi State, aimed at enhancing their combat capabilities, proficiency with unmanned aircraft systems, and response to security threats. This initiative, reported by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) on August 24, 2026, is part of a broader US-Nigeria security cooperation program.

The training at Operating Location Bauchi includes various critical areas such as Combat Lifesaver, Tactical Combat Casualty Care, weapons familiarization, camouflage, water treatment, explosive ordnance disposal, small-unit tactics, and unmanned aircraft system training. Capt. Gabriel Feingold, a logistics officer with the US Army Southern European Task Force, explained that the training topics are selected based on the needs of Nigerian personnel.

Sgt. Mark Murphy, an intelligence analyst with the 13th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, led a session for about 10 members of the Nigerian Air Force Special Forces Regiment, which included classroom instruction and practical exercises on operating unmanned aircraft systems.
