US Mission Lauds Dr. Ikenna Okezie for Kidney Care Innovation

The United States Mission in Nigeria commended Dr. Ikenna Okezie, a Nigerian-American physician and entrepreneur, for his transformative work in kidney care.

As the Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Somatus, Okezie leads a company that offers in-home dialysis support for patients with chronic kidney disease. The mission's post highlighted his commitment to improving healthcare access and reshaping care delivery in the United States.

Born in Nigeria and raised in Detroit, Okezie graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and earned a dual Doctor of Medicine and Master of Business Administration from Harvard. Before founding Somatus, he served as Group Vice President at DaVita Inc., managing a $1 billion business unit.

Somatus, co-founded with Anthony Welters, is valued at approximately $2.5 billion and focuses on integrated care for kidney disease and congestive heart failure, reflecting a shift towards value-based healthcare in the US.
