Cross River State to Complete Kidney Dialysis Center

The Cross River State Government has approved funding to complete a kidney dialysis center at the General Hospital in Ogoja. Dr.

Henri Ayuk, the state Commissioner for Health, announced this initiative, which is part of efforts to expand access to specialist healthcare services in the northern senatorial district. The project aims to address the significant gap in renal healthcare, as patients currently travel to neighboring states such as Makurdi, Abakaliki, and Calabar for dialysis treatment.

This travel imposes considerable physical, emotional, and financial strain on patients. Governor Bassey Otu emphasized the administration's commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and ensuring equitable access to quality medical services across Cross River State.

The increase in kidney disease cases and the absence of functional dialysis referral centers in the northern part of the state necessitated this intervention, which is expected to improve health outcomes for individuals living with kidney disease.
