Russell Breaks Amusan's 100m Hurdles World Record

At the Zurich Diamond League meeting, American athlete Russell set a new world record in the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 12.09 seconds, breaking Tobi Amusan's previous record of 12.12 seconds that had stood for four years. Tobi Amusan finished second in the race, achieving a season's best of 12.23 seconds, while Nadine Visser from the Netherlands claimed third place with her own season's best of 12.34 seconds.

The race was highly competitive, with Russell starting strong and Amusan catching up by the fourth hurdle. Both athletes were neck-and-neck until the seventh hurdle, after which Russell accelerated to finish in record time.

This victory makes Russell the first athlete in 28 years to hold both the world record and the Olympic gold medal in this event. Russell remains undefeated this season, having won all seven Diamond League events she participated in during 2026.
