Tinubu Urges INEC to Ensure Free Osun Election Ahead of 2027

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to demonstrate its preparedness for the 2027 general elections by ensuring a transparent and orderly governorship election in Osun State, scheduled for August 15, 2026. In a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu emphasized the need for security agencies to guarantee a peaceful electoral process.

The election will feature 15 candidates, including the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Hon. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Tinubu urged voters to participate actively and assured them of their safety.

He instructed the Inspector-General of Police and other security heads to provide maximum security at polling units, ensuring that electoral officials and voters can perform their duties without fear or intimidation. The President stressed that the election's outcome must reflect the will of the people.
