Seven Boko Haram Commanders Arrested at Katsina Airport

On a recent Thursday, seven known commanders of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) were arrested at Katsina Airport upon their return from Hajj in Saudi Arabia. The arrests were made possible through the integration of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) database with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and Interpol systems, as explained by Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

He made this announcement shortly after President Bola Tinubu signed the National Identity Management Commission Act into law. Tunji-Ojo emphasized the importance of this integration for national security, stating that it allows for real-time monitoring and identification of individuals crossing borders.

He acknowledged that while air borders are now more secure, land borders remain vulnerable. The new act provides necessary tools to enhance security measures across Nigeria's borders.
