Kogi Kidnapping: Victim Shares Harrowing Experience

On August 9, 2026, Victor Anyichie was among 16 individuals abducted by suspected kidnappers while traveling along the Ojuwo–Ajengo–Memarebo and Ojiwo–Itobe roads in Ofu Local Government Area, Kogi State. The kidnappers ambushed their bus, taking the passengers deep into the forest and demanding ransoms that ranged from N100,000 to N100 million.

Anyichie described how the attackers emerged from the bushes after a red Toyota Yaris had positioned itself near their vehicle. He noted that the kidnappers, armed with an AK-47, moved the victims frequently to evade security forces.

They instructed the victims to contact their families for ransom payments. Fortunately, a joint security team comprising the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, and Nigeria Police Force rescued all the victims after a gun battle with the kidnappers before any ransom payments could be made.
