Four Kidnapped Victims Rescued in Kogi Bus Attack

On August 5, 2026, armed hoodlums attacked a commercial passenger bus along the Okene–Auchi corridor, resulting in the death of the driver and the abduction of several passengers. As of a statement issued on Sunday in Lokoja, the Kogi State Police Command reported that four victims have been rescued.

The police have initiated intensive bush-combing and intelligence-driven operations to rescue the remaining victims and apprehend the kidnappers. The Commissioner of Police ordered the immediate deployment of tactical teams, collaborating with the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, and local vigilantes to enhance search and rescue operations.

Security measures have been intensified across the Kogi–Edo border, with personnel conducting coordinated clearance operations in identified forest locations linked to the incident. The operation, which continued into August 8, 2026, involves various police units and has received support from the Edo State Police Command, including the use of drones for surveillance and intelligence gathering.
