Suspected Kidnappers Abduct Passengers in Kogi Attack

On Sunday, August 9, 2026, suspected kidnappers attacked three buses in Kogi, leading to the abduction of passengers. The first incident occurred around 4 PM involving a Hummer bus from Peace Mass Transit, which was intercepted between Ojuwo-Ajengo and Mamerebo while traveling to Abuja.

The second attack took place at approximately 6 PM, targeting a Sharon and a Sienna commercial bus on an inter-state journey between Ojodu and Ojuwo-Olijo village. Witnesses reported that all occupants were taken into the bush after encountering barricades set up by the gunmen.

Two cellphones were found near one of the buses and handed over to security operatives. The exact number of abducted individuals remains unclear, pending the passengers' manifest.

A joint security operation, including army personnel, police, local vigilantes, and hunters, was deployed to the scene to rescue the kidnapped victims and apprehend the assailants. ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, spokesperson for the Kogi state police command, stated he would confirm details but had not responded by the time of the report.
