Adeleke Claims Oyetola Discouraged from 2022 Run

Ademola Adeleke, the current Governor of Osun State, revealed that former Governor Gboyega Oyetola was advised against running for a second term in the 2022 governorship election due to concerns that he would lose. This statement was made during a town hall debate organized by Arise TV.

Adeleke mentioned that he had friends within the All Progressives Congress (APC) who informed him about Oyetola's intentions and that some party members discouraged him from contesting, believing he could not defeat Adeleke. Furthermore, Adeleke alleged that the APC supported a proxy candidate in the election to allow Oyetola to retain control over the state government.

He criticized the APC's administration, stating that their policies had led to increased hardship for the residents of Osun. In contrast, Adeleke highlighted his administration's achievements, including clearing a backlog of pension obligations totaling approximately N80 billion.
