Umahi's Son Rejects Salary as Ohaozara LG Chairman

Engr. Osborn Nweze Umahi, the chairman-elect of Ohaozara Local Government Area in Ebonyi State, has announced his decision to forgo his salary and allowances during his tenure, opting to donate them to the local community. The 28-year-old emerged victorious in the local government election held on Saturday, having contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Umahi, who is the son of Senator David Umahi, the Minister of Works and former Governor of Ebonyi State, expressed that his choice to reject financial compensation stems from a commitment to serve the people rather than seek personal enrichment. He stated, “I will neither accept any salary nor allowance as Ohaozara LGA chairman,” emphasizing his focus on infrastructure development, youth empowerment, economic opportunities, and improved service delivery across Ohaozara communities.

His campaign positioned him as a new-generation politician, aiming to blend private-sector experience with public administration.
