Makinde Declares No Godfather Role for Successor in 2027

On Monday, at the Hijrah 1448/2026 luncheon held at the Banquet Hall, Agodi Gate, Ibadan, Oyo State Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde declared that he would not serve as a "godfather" to the next administration succeeding him in 2027.

He emphasized that the next governor must be accountable to the people of Oyo State. Makinde specifically mentioned the governorship candidates from the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Hon.

Bimbo Adekanmbi and Hon. Muftau Open Salawu, stating they would be responsible to the electorate if elected.

He criticized current candidates for focusing their campaigns on personal attacks against him instead of presenting their development plans. Makinde, who is barred from seeking a third consecutive term, urged candidates to explain their intentions and policies rather than attacking his administration.

He called on Oyo voters to demand specific programs and measurable commitments from candidates during their campaigns.
