Makinde Urges Candidates to Focus on Plans, Not Attacks

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde addressed governorship candidates for the 2027 election, urging them to cease personal attacks against him, stating he is not perfect but has done his best for the state. Speaking at the Hijrah 1448/2026 luncheon on Monday at the Banquet Hall, Agodi Gate, Ibadan, he emphasized that candidates should focus on presenting their plans to Oyo voters instead of targeting his administration.

Makinde, who is constitutionally barred from seeking a third consecutive term, declared he would not act as a "godfather" to the next government, stating that Bimbo Adekanbi and Hon. Open Salawu would be accountable to the people.

He criticized candidates for using his administration as a campaign focal point and urged them to articulate their intentions and blueprints to voters. Makinde asserted that his administration's performance should be judged on its record, while candidates should be evaluated based on their proposed policies.

He encouraged voters to demand clear plans from candidates ahead of the 2027 election.
