FCT CP Sanusi Urges Officers to Limit Detention Time

The Commissioner of Police for the FCT Command, CP Ahmed Sanusi, has issued a directive to officers regarding the treatment of suspects in custody. In a video shared by TV Platinum, he warned against holding suspects beyond the constitutionally allowed 24 hours without obtaining a court warrant for extended detention.

Sanusi stressed the need for officers to expedite their investigations and ensure that case files are properly vetted. He highlighted that prolonged detention without action reflects poorly on the officers involved and constitutes gross irresponsibility.

Sanusi also mandated that video evidence of confessional statements be recorded and that detainees have access to legal representation, family visits, and necessary medication. He assured support for officers who adhere to these procedures and warned against any intimidation of officers acting within the law.

Sanusi's remarks aim to improve the efficiency and accountability of the police force in handling suspects.
