Shettima Urges Local Governments to Combat Malnutrition

On a recent occasion in Abuja, Vice President Kashim Shettima tasked local government chairmen with the responsibility of implementing the Nutrit 774 initiative aimed at addressing malnutrition across Nigeria's 774 councils. During an audience with the National Executive Committee of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Shettima emphasized the importance of strengthening local government committees on food nutrition.

He directed that every council should develop a functional structure capable of delivering measurable improvements in community nutrition. Shettima noted that the absence of a coherent nutrition agenda at the local government level has created significant gaps in the national framework for food nutrition.

He commended ALGON's commitment to supporting the initiative, which includes ongoing pilot programs in local government areas. Shettima reiterated that tackling issues such as insecurity, poverty, and youth restiveness at the grassroots level is crucial for national development.

Bello Lawal, ALGON's National President, expressed gratitude for Shettima's support and highlighted the initiative's potential to strengthen local food systems.
