Shettima Returns After BRICS Summit in New Delhi

Vice President Kashim Shettima returned to Nigeria after attending the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi, India, where he represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. His participation included high-level sessions and bilateral meetings aimed at promoting Nigeria’s economic and diplomatic interests.

Notably, he met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss various sectors, including crude oil trade, investment, pharmaceuticals, defence, digital technology, fintech, and renewable energy. Additionally, Shettima engaged with Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), to reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to multilateralism and a more inclusive global economic framework.

During the summit, he delivered a message from President Tinubu advocating for reforms in global governance and financial institutions, positioning Nigeria as a gateway to Africa’s market under the African Continental Free Trade Area. The summit also served as a platform for Nigeria to enhance its collaboration with BRICS member countries in sectors such as agriculture, artificial intelligence, and healthcare.
