Wawrinka Receives US Open Wildcard for Final Appearance

Stan Wawrinka, the 41-year-old Swiss tennis player and 2016 US Open champion, has secured a wildcard entry for the upcoming US Open after Patrick Kypson withdrew due to injury. Wawrinka, who is planning to retire later this year, expressed his excitement about competing one last time in New York, a city where he won his first Grand Slam in 2016.

He stated, “I am really excited to accept the wild card and give myself one more chance to compete here at the US Open again.” Wawrinka, a three-time Grand Slam champion, also reflected on his fondness for the tournament, recalling his victory against Novak Djokovic in 2016 as one of the most exciting days of his life. This will mark Wawrinka's 18th appearance at the US Open, having made his Main Draw debut 20 years ago.

The tournament is set to commence on August 30.
