Obi Criticizes Government Over Attacks in North-Central States

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, condemned the Federal Government's handling of recent violent attacks in Benue, Plateau, and Niger states. In a statement on Sunday, he expressed concern over the loss of lives and destruction of property, highlighting a specific incident in Jwak Maitumbi, Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau State, where at least 23 people were officially reported dead, with local estimates exceeding 30.

Additionally, he referenced attacks in Borgu, Niger State, resulting in over 40 fatalities and more than 100 abductions. Obi emphasized that these incidents should not be viewed as isolated events but as part of a broader national security crisis.

He called for enhanced intelligence gathering, rapid response measures, and the protection of vulnerable communities. Obi insisted that the government must prioritize the safety of its citizens, stating, “We cannot keep counting bodies after every attack,” and warned against allowing Nigeria to become a "killing field.".
