Bayelsa Governor Diri Honors Ijaw Icon Chief Mitin

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State expressed profound sorrow over the passing of Chief Tamaraumieyefa Mitin, a prominent Ijaw cultural ambassador and late regent of Oporomor Kingdom, during a memorial service held on a Tuesday. Chief Mitin, who died on June 30, 2025, at the age of 76, was celebrated for his significant contributions to fostering social cohesion among the Ijaw ethnic nation.

Diri highlighted Mitin's passion for promoting Ijaw culture and language, noting his instrumental role during the administration of former Governor Seriake Dickson. Mitin was appointed as a focal person for the revival of the Ijaw language and the establishment of Radio Bayelsa.

Diri urged the community to remain united in honoring Mitin's legacy and emphasized the importance of preserving Ijaw traditions. The memorial service also included tributes from various community leaders, including Hon.

Frank Enekorogha and Rev. Godspow Asingba, who underscored Mitin's positive impact on the community.
