Uzodinma Calls 2023 Southeast Elections a Political Accident

Hope Uzodinma, the Governor of Imo State, characterized the political occurrences in Southeast Nigeria during the 2023 general elections as a "political accident." Speaking at a meeting with leaders of the Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which included Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu, Uzodinma stated that such incidents should not be repeated in the 2027 elections. He underscored the importance of unity among party members and urged leaders and stakeholders to set aside personal interests to present a united front.

The region had previously given a block vote to opposition candidate Peter Obi in the last presidential election. Uzodinma expressed confidence in the electoral prospects of the APC in the region and highlighted the need for greater political participation within the party to ensure the Southeast benefits from the federal government.

He cautioned party members against allowing internal contests to create divisions, particularly as the upcoming primaries should not become battlegrounds.
