David Jonsson Cast as New Black Panther for Marvel

British actor David Jonsson has been unveiled as the new Black Panther, succeeding the late Chadwick Boseman in the iconic role. The announcement was made by director Ryan Coogler during Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel at Comic-Con in San Diego on Saturday.

Jonsson will portray Prince T’Challa II (Toussaint), the son of T’Challa and Nakia, in "Black Panther 3," which is scheduled for release on December 15, 2028. Jonsson, 32, has experienced a significant rise in his acting career, transitioning from theatre in London to major film and television roles.

He was born in Custom House, East London, and has a diverse background with roots in Sierra Leone, Nigeria, the Caribbean, and Sweden. Jonsson graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in 2016 and made his professional debut in "Mary Stuart" at the Almeida Theatre.

His breakthrough role came in the BBC Two and HBO drama "Industry," which he played until 2022. He has received several accolades, including the BAFTA Rising Star Award in 2025.
