Nigeria to Launch Wheelchair American Football Super League

Football Elite Development (AFEDEV) announced plans to create a Wheelchair American Football Super League in Nigeria following the successful Wheelchair American Football Exhibition held at the National Institute for Sports, National Stadium, Lagos. The exhibition featured wheelchair athletes and various stakeholders, including sports administrators and diplomatic representatives.

Liberty Pioneer excelled, winning two of three matches, including a 13-0 victory over Iron Invicta and a 10-3 win against Atlantic Chargers. The event was supported by the United States Consulate General, which provided jerseys, footballs, and meals for participants.

AFEDEV Executive Director Ojaideh Ufoma Lawrence emphasized the exhibition as a starting point for broader development in wheelchair football, aiming to expand the sport across Nigeria and establish competitive opportunities through the proposed Super League. The initiative has garnered support from corporate organizations such as Nestle Milo and Pocari Sweat, highlighting a collaborative effort to promote wheelchair football in the country.
