INEC Accused of $50,000 Bribe to Alter ADC Leadership

Aisha Yesufu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has raised serious allegations against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), claiming that it accepted a $50,000 bribe and a parcel of land to facilitate leadership changes within the party. These accusations were made during a prime-time television appearance on Monday, where Yesufu expressed her concerns about the integrity of electoral bodies in Nigeria.

She highlighted the recent derecognition of former Senate President David Mark and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola by INEC, suggesting that these decisions were influenced by corrupt practices. Yesufu questioned the lack of action from anti-corruption agencies like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) in investigating these claims.

She warned that the judiciary is also perceived as compromised, which could undermine public trust in democratic institutions. Yesufu emphasized the need for transparency and accountability to prevent the manipulation of power and protect Nigeria's democracy.
