Nollywood Actor Taiwo Hassan 'Ogogo' Dies at 66

Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as "Ogogo," died on August 23, 2026, at the age of 66 after a battle with Stage 4 cancer. His daughter, Kira Taiwo, announced his death on social media, following an appeal made by Kira and her sister Lima on August 18 for medical specialists to assist with their father's treatment.

They clarified they were not seeking financial help but rather connections to experts who could provide care. Born on October 31, 1959, in Ilaro, Ogun State, Ogogo began his acting career in 1981 while working as an auto mechanic at the Lagos State Water Corporation.

He became a well-known figure in Yoruba-language films, particularly recognized for his role as Wole Owolabi in the 1996 film. Ogogo was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards for his role in Kunle Afolayan’s film.

His death marks the end of a career spanning over four decades in Nigeria's film industry.
