Oby Kechere, Nollywood's "Ms Koi Koi," Passes Away

Oby Kechere, affectionately known as Nollywood's "Ms Koi Koi," tragically passed away after battling an illness, as announced by the Directors Guild of Nigeria on a Saturday. The guild expressed deep sorrow over her death, highlighting her invaluable contributions to the profession.

Born and raised in Mbais, Imo State, southeastern Nigeria, Kechere grew up in a household of six, which shaped her cultural sensibility and understanding of community storytelling, deeply rooted in Igbo culture. She graduated from the Theatre Arts program at the University of Ibadan, one of Nigeria's oldest and most prestigious universities.

Kechere rose to fame in 2002 with her iconic role in a Nollywood classic alongside a legendary comedic duo. Her career spanned over two decades, during which she showcased her versatility in various genres, including comedy and drama.

She was also involved with the Nigerian National Orientation Agency in Abuja, reflecting her commitment to the development of Nollywood.
