Aisha Yesufu: 2027 Election Easier for Peter Obi

Aisha Yesufu, a member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed confidence that the 2027 presidential election will be easier for Peter Obi, the party’s candidate, compared to the 2023 election. In the 2023 election, Peter Obi, representing the Labour Party, received 6.1 million votes, finishing third behind Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 6.9 million votes and Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who won with 8.7 million votes.

During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Yesufu highlighted the groundwork laid by Obi's support base, known as the Obidients, which she believes will facilitate a stronger campaign in 2027. She also mentioned the alliance between Obi and NDC vice-presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso as a significant factor that could enhance their chances.

Yesufu pointed out that the current economic hardships faced by Nigerians might shift voter priorities away from religious considerations, emphasizing that such issues are now paramount for the electorate.
