APC Defends Betta Edu's Role in Tinubu's 2027 Campaign

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has justified the inclusion of Betta Edu, former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, in President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign council. Kemi Asekun-Shittu, a spokesperson for the campaign committee, stated during an interview on Channels Television that Edu has not been found guilty of any wrongdoing.

Edu was suspended by Tinubu in January 2024 due to allegations of financial impropriety and is currently under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Asekun-Shittu emphasized that it would be unfair to restrict Edu's political participation while the investigation is ongoing, asserting that every Nigerian has the right to engage in politics.

Edu has been appointed as Director of Women Mobilisation in the APC Presidential Campaign Council. The spokesperson acknowledged concerns regarding Edu's past allegations but maintained that the campaign committee's decisions are internal party matters.
