APC Defends Betta Edu's Role in Tinubu's Campaign Council

The All Progressives Congress (APC) defended the inclusion of Betta Edu, former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, in President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign council. Kemi Asekun-Shittu, a spokesperson for the APC campaign committee, stated that Edu is entitled to participate in political activities as she has not been convicted of any offense.

Edu was suspended from her ministerial position in January 2024 due to allegations of financial impropriety and is under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Asekun-Shittu argued that it would be unjust to hinder Edu's political career while the investigation is ongoing, emphasizing that an allegation does not equate to a conviction.

She noted that it has been nearly two years since the case began and that Edu deserves the opportunity to contribute to the party. Edu has been appointed as the Director of Women Mobilisation in the APC Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 elections.
