Gen. Agwai Advocates Conflict Prevention in Nasarawa

At a conflict sensitivity workshop held in Lafia, Nasarawa State, Gen. Agwai discussed the persistent conflicts in various communities, stressing the importance of understanding the underlying issues that lead to recurring violence. He advocated for a proactive leadership approach that enables communities to identify hidden tensions before they escalate into violence.

Agwai noted that traditional rulers play a crucial role in peacebuilding, as they are often closest to the people and can detect early signs of unrest. Governor Abdullahi Sule, who declared the workshop open, emphasized that preventing conflicts is a more cost-effective strategy than responding to violence after it erupts.

He linked the rise in insecurity to mining activities and political grievances, pledging the state government's continued partnership with the Middle Belt Brain Trust to address these issues effectively.
