G100's Push for Consensus Candidate Faces Major Setbacks

The G100's efforts to establish a consensus presidential candidate against President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections may encounter major setbacks. Concerns have been raised regarding the timing of the initiative, as various political parties have already selected their presidential candidates and submitted their nominations to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Chief Uche Nnadi, National Chairman of the Action Peoples Party (APP), stated that the G100 is not a legally recognized political party and cannot independently sponsor a candidate. He emphasized that only registered political parties can nominate candidates, making it difficult for the G100 to persuade parties to adopt a single candidate.

Nnadi noted that the timing for achieving a consensus candidate has likely passed, as all political parties have concluded their selection processes. Hon. Sergius Ogun and Comrade Austin Aigbe also expressed differing views on the feasibility of a single candidate, with Aigbe suggesting a focus on major issues instead.
