Eco-learn Nigeria Advocates for Climate Education Investment

Eco-learn Nigeria has emphasized the necessity for greater investment in climate education to tackle Nigeria's environmental challenges, including flooding, coastal erosion, food insecurity, and energy poverty. The organization has launched a climate literacy initiative that aims to directly train 50 teachers across Lagos State, impacting approximately 2,000 students, with plans to double this number by 2027.

The initiative is part of a broader vision to expand access to climate education throughout Nigeria. Eco-learn Nigeria highlighted that the current climate knowledge gap hampers effective climate action, citing limited understanding of climate risks among local governments.

The organization aims to empower communities with the knowledge and skills necessary for climate action. Their programs include teacher capacity building and community-led sustainability projects.

The initiative has received support from the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Netherlands in Lagos, which is described as a major sponsor and strategic partner.
