Osun Speaker Accuses Police Chief of SSG's Arrest Order

Adewale Egbedun, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, alleged that Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan ordered the arrest of Teslim Igbalaye, the Secretary to the State Government, after Igbalaye laughed when Gotan was booed at an Independent National Electoral Commission stakeholders’ meeting. Egbedun expressed concern over Gotan's alleged abuse of power, stating that the incident should alarm every patriotic Nigerian.

He recounted that after the booing, Gotan made several phone calls, leading Egbedun to suspect that an arrest order was issued. Shortly thereafter, Igbalaye received a call informing him that police officers were waiting at his residence.

He later reported being invited to the State Criminal Investigation Department due to allegations of N4 million and two voter cards being recovered from his home. The Osun State Police Command, however, claimed the operation was based on intelligence reports about criminal activities in Osogbo, asserting that they recovered N4,810,500 and arrested six suspects during the operation.
