Tinubu Approves 30-80% Salary Increase for Military

President Bola Tinubu approved a salary raise for members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, ranging from 30 to 80 percent, to improve troop welfare and morale while strengthening efforts to combat insecurity in Nigeria. The announcement was made in a statement on Tuesday, emphasizing the administration's commitment to national security and recognizing the sacrifices made by military personnel.

The salary increase is part of a broader security agenda that includes modernizing the armed forces with better weapons and technology. The new salary structure, effective from September 1, stipulates a 30 percent increase for officers from brigadier general to general, a 50 percent increase for officers from colonel to warrant officer, and an 80 percent increase for personnel from private to staff sergeant.

This adjustment will raise the annual salary bill for the armed forces from N660 billion to N924 billion. Tinubu urged servicemen to view this gesture as a sign of appreciation for their commitment to national security.
