PDP, ADC, NDC Announce Boycott of Edo LG Elections

The Edo State chapters of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and National Democratic Congress (NDC) have declared their intention to boycott the local government elections set for July 11, 2026. This decision was announced in a statement signed by Dr. Toni Aziegbemi, the faction leader of the PDP, on July 2, 2026.

The parties argue that the electoral process is illegitimate and cannot produce a valid outcome due to the expiration of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission's (EDSIEC) statutory tenure and the failure to appoint new commissioners. They reference a high court judgment that reinstated elected council chairmen and assert that participating in the elections would endorse unconstitutional actions.

The parties have urged their members to refrain from participating and committed to defending democracy and the rule of law in Edo State.
