NDC Threatens Boycott of Enugu LG Elections Over Materials

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) announced on Saturday its intention to boycott the forthcoming local government elections in Enugu State if the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) does not release official electoral materials to the party. In a statement signed by the State Secretary, Chukwujekwu Emmanuel, the NDC accused ENSIEC of political discrimination and withholding critical materials necessary for the party's participation.

The State Executive Committee of the NDC convened an emergency meeting to protest what they termed bias from the electoral commission, asserting that denying access to electoral materials violates the constitutional rights of the party. The NDC warned that failure to release the materials would compel them to withdraw from the elections.

They called for immediate action from ENSIEC to ensure equal participation and urged the national leadership of the party to pursue legal measures to protect their candidates from exclusion. ENSIEC's Public Relations Officer, George Okwelu, referred inquiries to the commission's secretary, Ifesi Umeobika, who was unavailable for comment.
