Wike's Influence Diminishes as PDP Faces Internal Crisis

Adetokunbo Pearse, a chieftain of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), expressed that Nyesom Wike is eager for reconciliation but has lost his influence within the party. During a breakfast meeting on Central TV, Pearse discussed the ongoing crisis within the PDP, highlighting that Wike's state is crucial for peace within the party.

He criticized the PDP for not fielding a presidential candidate, which he believes allows Bola Tinubu to run unopposed, posing a threat to Nigeria's democracy. Pearse warned against denying citizens their right to choose leaders and condemned the decline in voter turnout in recent elections, citing figures from the 2023 general elections and subsequent off-cycle polls.

He insisted that the PDP must field candidates in future elections and stressed that attempts to undermine the democratic process would not be tolerated. Pearse also noted that there is no faction within the PDP and that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recognizes the party.
